Our Song Within The Song

Our Song Within The Song

- Lucy Hinton 1996

We are all

Singers of an incessant song

Whose great tune repeats itself

Over and over

But whose words

Are altered by

The generations

Singing them

We are droplets of rain

That fall in circles

Waves that break

Over bigger waves

Winds that breathe

Our trailing tails

And horizons that lead

Outward and in

Punctuating

The cycling ripples

Of forever

Are the peculiar divine myriad variations

That make us individual
